As it was a bit of an iffy day today, after a foray down the plot to get tatties (Catriona, below) and onions for tea I retreated to the polytunnel (PT).
First off, I was greeted by this stunner on the fig plant:
I’ve never seen them in blue before (the photo really doesn’t do it justice) only green and white.
Then I had a visit from the resident toad who insisted the path was the best place to be before he say my clomping size 8’s headed his way.
I decided to put him on the beds behind the tomatoes where he found a toad-size plant pot to lurk in.
After that I cleared some sacks I had down as weed surpressants and found a whole nest of toads. There were more than this, but some had scarpered before I had chance to get the camera out my pocket. There’s 5 left in this picture:
It makes rather a pleasant change from the bastard bunny I saw removing itself post-haste from the garden shortly before I entered the PT. I think it knew what would have happened if I’d caught it in the PT (where it had obviously been, judging by the stalks that were once – or were soon to be – brussel sprouts).
Other than that, it was a relatively uneventful day – the hens paid a brief visit to the PT, before being shushed out, then came and visited me in the shed as I was doing some carding (they decided they didn’t like the look of the big black sacks of woolly stuff and pecked off, not before leaving a big stinky poo outside to waft it’s way it).
Off to put the tea on now!
